The Athens Hotel

The Athens Hotel was built in 1902 by Henry H. Tandy and leased to William S. Johnston. It was one of a group of establishments built around the turn of the century in response to the dire need for more short and long term rental properties in town.

The hotel was used as a hospital in 1918, during World War I, for treating influenza. The name changed to Columbia Hotel January 1, 1921.
